Help-Portrait Las Vegas

Help-Portrait is a movement of photographers who are using their time, equipment and expertise to give back to those who are less fortunate this Holiday Season.

On Saturday, December 12, 2009, a team of photographers came together to dedicate the day to local homeless teens through the Center for Independent Living. With the assistance of make-up artists and hair stylists, the goal was to show the teens they are beautiful and not forgotten despite their circumstances and living situation.

Marylou and I first heard about the project on the morning of the 12th, we packed our equipment and drove to the center. We had a blast with the kids and meeting local artists.

Without any reservation, we photographed the wedding of Danielle and her soul mate Shawn.

Today, I had the honor and privilege to photograph President Obama at Nellis Air Force Base (15 miles northeast from downtown Las Vegas).

Calico Basin

Susan and Daniel decided Calico Basin was the spot for their engagement session. Calico Basin is a colorful area tucked between the gray limestone La Madre Mountains to the north, the red sandstone Calico Hills to the west, and a desert ridge to the south. Three springs with permanent water emerge from the base of the red sandstone cliffs: Red Spring, Calico Spring, and Ash Spring. Water also runs in washes to the north and south of the springs during the winter months. It's hard to believe the Las Vegas desert is a few miles east.

We had the opportunity to photograph Stephanie and Danny on Memorial Day outside the New York-New York Hotel and Casino. Both are active duty Airmen in the United States Air Force and stationed at Nellis Air Force Base. As a way to say thanks for their outstanding service and commitment to our great country, we did a Bridal Session. They were married last Saturday at a tiny chapel in a romantic ceremony. We wish them the best in their life together. Danny will be deploying to Iraq this summer, have a safe return back home.

I tried out my new alien bees 400 watts portrait light, what I love about this lighting kit (also picked up an 800 watt) is that it came with an external vagabond II battery pack which will enable me to take location portraits anywhere. Magaly and Lou's day was rich in Mexican and Greek traditions.

We started the day at the St John's Greek Orthodox Church with a ceremony that was full of Greek rituals. The celebration continued at the JW Marriot Las Vegas Resort & Spa in the Summerlin http://www.jwlasvegasresort.com/ .

This was a first rate affair with great Greek, Latin and Asian Pacific music that brought the best in everyone!

Isidora, a Law School student from Chile came to visit her grandma and to celebrate her 19th birthday last Friday in Las Vegas. She's beautiful, smart and completely dedicated to her studies although she has her little sweetheart waiting for her back in her country. Good luck Isi and Viva Chile!

Todays photo session was at the JW Marriott. The inside gardens are full of mature vegetation, it's hard to believe you're in the desert.

We had the pleasure of documenting Karen & Perry's wedding at Bally's Hotel and Casino.

This wedding was more about long-term bonds than flighty romance, they had family & friends going back over a life time from all walks of life. The suite was full of a lot St. Patrick's Day paraphernalia in the wedding favors that made for capturing lots of good laughter.

Perry shouldn't forget his anniversary with small reminders such as the little green leprechaun himself, March madness and the whole world drinking green beer on the 17th.
